Detroit Waldorf School alum and Cofounder/CEO of Hopscotch, Samantha John, was featured on ABC’s Shark Tank on February 26, 2021.
Hopscotch is an app that teaches kids to code by using use open-ended tools to build what interests them. While on Shark Tank, “Shark” Mark Cuban offered John $400,000 for 16% equity. After a bit of negotiation, he and John agreed on a $550,000 investment for 11% equity, valuing the company at $5 million.
John studied applied mathematics, English, and comparative literature at Columbia University and worked as an engineer and a developer at Pivotal Labs. John created Hopscotch with educator Jocelyn Leavitt, and launched the app in 2013.
