Vidar Foundation Tuition Loan Program (VTLP)

Supporting Waldorf Teacher Education in Canada

There is a growing need for Waldorf teachers in Canada, but training costs can be a barrier. The Vidar Tuition Loan Program (VTLP) offers interest-free loans to eligible Canadian students to help make Waldorf teacher education more accessible.

 Loan Terms

  • VTLP offers interest-free loans of up to 80% of the full tuition for one-, two-, or three-year programs.
  • Loans do not cover books, travel, or accommodation expenses.
  • Repayment begins six months after graduation or withdrawal from the program.
  • Loans must be repaid within five years, with a minimum monthly repayment of $100.
  • Loans can be repaid early, in full or in part, at any time during the five-year term.

Growth Contribution
In lieu of interest, all students are asked to make a one-time 5% “Growth Contribution” based on the total loan amount.

  • This contribution supports the sustainability of the loan fund.
  • It is not an administrative fee, interest, or profit.
  • The maximum total contribution is $600.
  • This contribution is paid at the beginning of the first year of study. If a student requests a loan in subsequent years, the 5% will apply to the new amount, still within the $600 maximum.

Loan Forgiveness (VTLP Bursaries)
To support your journey into the Waldorf teaching profession, a portion of your loan may be forgiven:

  • 10% of the loan will be forgiven for each year of full-time teaching at a Canadian Waldorf school.
  • Up to 30% may be forgiven over a five-year period following graduation.
  • Part-time teaching may be counted toward a full-time equivalent year.
  • Eligibility requires completion of your program and a loan account in good standing.
  • The training organization will update students annually regarding any loan adjustments.

 Loan Disbursement
Once contracted, loan funds will be disbursed directly to the training institution according to their regular tuition payment schedule.

  • Loan Guarantors (Community Co-signers)
Each applicant must identify one or more loan guarantors (co-signers) who agree to cover a portion of the loan if the student is unable to repay it.
  • Co-signers sign a simple agreement for the portion they guarantee.
  • If needed, the training institution can assist in locating guarantors from the broader anthroposophical community.
