Whidbey Island Waldorf School (WIWS) is a small, loving community school nestled in the stunning beauty of Whidbey Island, just an hour north of Seattle and a short ten-minute drive from Langley-by-the-Sea. Essential Job Duties

The Administrator at Whidbey Island Waldorf School is entrusted with the vital task of ensuring the seamless day-to-day operation of our school. This role is at the center of our community, balancing the practical needs of coordinating employees, classrooms, parent engagement, and facilities, while nurturing a thriving environment for children, teachers, and families alike.

In addition to overseeing the operational aspects, the Administrator is responsible for ensuring the school remains in full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the specific accreditation standards set by AWSNA and WECAN. This role also safeguards the school’s policies and practices, ensuring that they align with our mission and the broader Waldorf movement.

The Administrator plays a crucial role in maintaining the school’s financial health, upholding its reputation, ensuring legal standing, and nurturing community relationships. They also guide fundraising efforts and contribute to the overall organizational well-being of the school.

Working closely with and reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Administrator collaborates with various school governing bodies to foster effective leadership, clear vision, and smooth operations. As a non-voting member of the Board, the Administrator supports both the Faculty and the Board in maintaining professional, ethical, and compliant operations, while always keeping the values and mission of the school at the heart of every decision.

Qualifications

Key Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge

  • Waldorf School Philosophy: Knowledge of Waldorf school principles, including administrative and educational methods and techniques.

  • School Administration: Strong understanding of school administration principles, including finance, budgeting, and personnel management.

  • Public Relations & Community Engagement: Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with community groups, public agencies, parents, and the general public, while promoting the school’s image.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills and experience with Google Suite and related tools.

  • Multitasking & Organization: Ability to work efficiently in a high-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze, interpret, and summarize administrative and financial data, presenting it in a clear and effective manner.

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of stakeholders.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to engage with people tactfully and courteously, fostering a positive and supportive environment.

  • Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred– Master’s degree, Childcare Director Qualified, Active WA State Teacher Certification, Waldorf Grades or EC Teaching Certificate, Waldorf Specific Administrative Training.
