Essential Job Duties

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Pedagogical Chair serves as the educational and instructional leader of the school, guiding the faculty in delivering a curriculum that is aligned with Waldorf education principles, the school’s scope and sequence, and MWS standards of excellence. This individual mentors teachers across grades PreK–8, supports curriculum development and implementation, facilitates faculty growth, and oversees key logistical and administrative functions related to the academic program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Faculty Mentorship & Support

  • Provide ongoing support, feedback, and mentorship to PreK–8 faculty
  • Implement and manage scheduled teacher evaluations
  • Support the professional development of faculty through regular observations, meetings, and training initiatives
  • Onboard and mentor new teachers to ensure a smooth transition and integration into the community

Curriculum Oversight

  • Ensure curriculum is aligned with Waldorf methods and MWS’s scope and sequence
  • Guide and uphold MWS pedagogical standards and educational vision
  • Collaborate with faculty to support instructional planning, differentiation, and student-centered learning

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee class schedules for grades
  • Coordinate and manage grades and EC aftercare program schedules
  • Organize and manage faculty substitutions, including stepping in to substitute when needed
  • Facilitate regular pedagogical meetings and ensure alignment of educational goals

Community & Culture

  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and nurturing culture for faculty
  • Support communication between faculty, administration, and families as needed regarding educational matters
  • Serve as an educational leader in the school community, representing Waldorf pedagogy in parent education and public events and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Deep understanding and experience in Waldorf education (required)
  • Previous experience in faculty leadership, mentoring, and/or teacher development
  • At least 5 years of classroom teaching experience in a Waldorf setting
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership and conflict-resolution abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree (required); Waldorf Teacher Training certification (required); advanced degree (preferred)
