Opening Statement
The Highland Hall Waldorf Parent-Child Teacher leads weekly classes for parents (or caregivers) and their young children (typically ages birth to 3 years old), fostering a nurturing and supportive environment grounded in the principles of Waldorf early childhood education. The teacher guides adults and children through seasonal rhythms, songs, handwork, movement, and practical parenting insights inspired by Rudolf Steiner’s teachings.
About
Our school is a beautiful 11-acre campus that sits atop a grassy hill in a scenic neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley, a suburb of Los Angeles. Students are surrounded by lush grounds and a variety of trees, with ample space for nature walks. We have a garden, chicken coop, and an orchard where the children learn to cultivate fruits, vegetables, and other plants. Our campus also has a spacious grassy playing field and gymnasium where the students enjoy a variety of physical activities.
Established in 1955, our school was the West Coast’s first Waldorf school and is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Association of Waldorf Schools in North America (AWSNA).
Essential Job Duties
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate educational opportunities through discussions and readings to support parenting.
- Provide families with an introduction to Waldorf education and Highland Hall Waldorf School.
- Plan daily, weekly, and seasonal rhythms of the class thoughtfully.
- Maintain open communication with parents.
- Participate in school community and public relations events, such as open houses.
- Attend faculty and mentoring meetings and liaison with administration, faculty, and parents as needed.
- Perform other duties as directed to meet the needs of the school.
Qualifications
- Waldorf teaching or LIFEWAYS certification from a recognized institution (or near completion.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (if interested in future salaried position)
- Experience working with children ages 0–3 and their families
- Deep understanding of and commitment to Waldorf pedagogy and anthroposophy
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently while fostering community and connection
- First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
Employment Details
25-28 hours per week with opportunity for salaried position with growth of program. With qualifications, we will consider a Bridge Class Lead role and Parent Child teacher combination. Range: $41,000-$56,000.
