The Marketing & Communications staff member plays a pivotal role in the growth and success of Portland Waldorf School by working on all aspects of the school’s marketing and communications processes. This position requires a dynamic, highly organized, and efficient person who can collaborate with various stakeholders to attract and retain a diverse and qualified student body.

Portland Waldorf School was founded in 1982 and is fully accredited through AWSNA. We serve over 300 students from early childhood through grade twelve on a beautiful seven-acre campus in downtown Milwaukie, just 20 minutes from downtown Portland.

Essential Job Duties

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understand and articulate PWS’ mission in a knowledgeable, professional, and positive way.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement PWS’ strategic marketing goals.
  • Serve as a compelling ambassador for PWS, thoughtfully building relationships with faculty, staff, families, and colleagues at other independent schools.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff in all sections to learn details of curriculum offerings in each grade/class, new programs, electives, clubs, activities, camps, morning/aftercare, school events, field trips, performances, presentations, fundraising, etc. in order to communicate the most current and relevant information to our community.
  • Design and publish weekly bulletin, newsletters, website updates, social media posts, print and digital advertisements, flyers, banners, brochures, annual report, and yearbook.
  • Manage photography and videography of various school programs, events, faculty/staff, and students.
  • Use an analytic, data-driven approach to help guide marketing efforts and research marketing trends for independent schools.

Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or other relevant field of study.
  • Two years’ experience in an independent school marketing role, preferably in a Waldorf school.
  • Exceptional writing and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Detail and goal oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all the school’s various constituencies, such as prospective families, current families, alumni and alumni families, faculty/staff, leadership, Board, local community, feeder schools, local area Waldorf schools.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and networking in the realm of independent school marketing and communications; Waldorf curriculum and pedagogy; and DEI.
  • Highly resourceful and motivated – a “self-starter” with welcoming energy, enthusiasm, and exemplary work ethic.
  • Helpful, teamwork attitude; willing to assist faculty and staff with other tasks as needed.
  • Fluency with Google applications, Canva, Adobe, and enrollment database systems (Blackbaud) and a willingness to learn new software programs as needed.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends for school events as needed.

Employment Details

This is a part-time, non-exempt position, with an hourly wage range of $22.00-25.00, depending on education and work experience. Work hours are flexible, up to an average of 28 hours per week year-round, and must be agreed upon at hire. Work location is on-site during school days, and remote work is available during school breaks. Must be available for occasional evening and weekend work as requested. Benefits offered include paid sick time per Oregon Sick Leave law, retirement plan (after a 12-month waiting period), and professional development opportunities as budget allows.

Preferred start date is June 1, 2026.
