Opening Statement
The San Francisco Waldorf Grade School Afterschool Program is looking for a part-time Substitute Aide to be on call, beginning late August 2025.
Hours range between 11:30pm-5:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Summary:
The Aftercare Substitute is an essential role for students at the school, in creating continuity in the daily rhythm of our program in supporting the students and staff. The Substitute will supervise rest time and snack time with the Kindergartners, as well as monitor age appropriate indoor and outdoor activities for the grade school students.
The Aftercare Director will provide training, guidance and oversight for the Substitute’s work with the students in the classroom and outdoor space.

Essential Job Duties
Responsibilities Include:
- Set up the Kindergarten classroom for rest time, creating a warm and welcoming environment for the Kindergarten students to rest
- Supervise the Kindergarten students during rest utilizing techniques such as singing, massage, storytelling, etc.
- Manage the grade school students during snack time and transitions using strategies such as: finger play games, storytelling, singing, etc.
- Hold two quiet snack times
- Supervise the Kindergarten students during indoor and outdoor play, and engage in activities such as crafts, sports, drawing, games, etc. with the grade school students
- Clean-up of the classroom, including wiping down surfaces, vacuuming, emptying compost, etc.
- Clean-up of outdoor spaces after use, together with the students
Qualifications
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- Applicants should be familiar with and interested in Waldorf education
- 1 -2 years of experience working with children, ranging from Kindergarten – 6th grade
- Effective in classroom management in a nurturing, flexible and respectful way
- Good communication skills with colleagues and faculty
- Must have an interest in engaging students in crafts, games, sports and other activities, both indoors and outdoors
- Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively on a team with guidance from the Kindergarten Aftercare Coordinator and Aftercare Director
- CPR/First Aid certified
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Be able to occasionally lift 30 lbs.
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold
- Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours
FLSA Classification: Hourly; not exempt from overtime

Employment Details
Compensation:
$29.00 per hour
This is a part-time, non-exempt, hourly position. It carries no benefits other than those available through the San Francisco City. This position does not continue during the summer break months. The school year ends on June 4th, 2026. School breaks and Holidays are unpaid.
