The Sun Child Preschool program is rooted in warmth, rhythm, imagination, and a deep respect for the unfolding of childhood. We are seeking a compassionate, creative, and dedicated educator to join our team and guide children through a rich, play-based, nature-connected program aligned with the BC Early Learning Framework and Waldorf pedagogy. The Early Childhood Educator is responsible for holding the program manager role and the pedagogical vision of the preschool program and providing an environment where young children thrive through nurturing care, imaginative play, rhythm, and meaningful activity. This role includes guiding support staff, planning and implementing curriculum, fostering relationships with families, and maintaining compliance with BC Child Care Licensing Regulation.

Essential Job Duties

Key Responsibilities

  • Create a warm, predictable, artistic, and nature-rich Waldorf early childhood environment
  • Plan and lead daily, weekly, and seasonal rhythms, stories, songs, crafts, and outdoor play
  • Provide trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate care rooted in relationship and respect
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all children in accordance with licensing standards
  • Maintain collaborative communication with families and colleagues
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Mentor ECEAs and support staff in the program
  • Document observations and maintain child records as required
  • Participate in festivals, community events, and ongoing professional development
  • Uphold Waldorf early childhood principles including imitation, sensory-rich environments, and protection of childhood

Qualifications

Ideal Qualifications

  • BC Early Childhood Educator Certificate (ECE) in good standing
  • Waldorf Early Childhood training or interest in pursuing it
  • Experience working with children ages 2.5-5 in licensed child-care settings
  • Strong understanding of the BC Early Learning Framework
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with nature-based or holistic learning programs
  • Training in trauma-informed or strengths-based practice

Employment Details

School year pay range: $35,976 to $52,298 annually depending on ECE certification and years of experience (plus Wage Enhancement – which equals around $7000/calendar year)
