The Communications & Community Engagement Coordinator plays a deeply meaningful & strategic role in nurturing and strengthening relationships across the entire Whidbey Island Waldorf School community. This position serves as a vital connector, engaging current and prospective families, donors, alumni, local businesses, school committees, and community partners with care and intention to cultivate a strong sense of belonging, shared purpose, and authentic connection rooted in Waldorf values.
As the voice of the school, the Coordinator brings the school’s mission to life through creative, values-aligned storytelling that speaks to the soul. This individual will craft compelling content, manage communication platforms, and thoughtfully implement outreach strategies designed to grow enrollment and giving outcomes. Through a blend of digital marketing, advertising, engaging events, and heartfelt personal outreach, the Coordinator ensures the school’s message is shared with warmth, clarity, and consistency, inviting all to experience the unique beauty and spirit of the WIWS community.
As a guardian of the school’s public presence, the Coordinator actively listens to the community’s needs, responds with thoughtfulness, and helps WIWS remain a beacon of trust, joy, and purpose. This role strengthens not just enrollment and development outcomes, but also the heartfelt connections that make a Waldorf school a true home for all who enter, fostering long-term commitment and support. Working collaboratively with the Admissions Coordinator, faculty, staff, and Parent Council, the Coordinator will design and implement engaging campaigns, events, and partnerships that build trust, spark enthusiasm, and create a strong alignment with the school’s mission and vision.

WIWS Mission
WIWS nurtures children to become world citizens who think independently, serve others and take action for the common good. We have provided a comprehensive, whole-person, arts-integrated education with a rich festival life on South Whidbey Island since 1985 and are blessed to be situated in the midst of a 106-acre forest preserve. Our program serves about 1630children ranging from 15 months to grade 8.

This dynamic role requires a blend of strategic vision and hands-on execution, all rooted in the values of Waldorf education.

Qualifications
Key Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge
Waldorf Education & Community-Centered Schooling: Understanding and appreciation for Waldorf principles; commitment to fostering an inclusive, community-driven school culture.
Experience: 3–5 years in communications, marketing, event, experiential, or community engagement (preferably in education or nonprofit); experience organizing events and campaigns.
Communication & Storytelling: Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills; ability to create clear, professional, and values-aligned messaging for diverse audiences.
Digital & Platform Management: Proficiency or aptitude for managing digital tools (Canva, Mailchimp, Squarespace/WordPress, Google Suite, CRM systems, SEO); experience with database management and performance analytics.
Lead & Relationship Nurturing: Ability to build, nurture, and track relationships with prospective families, donors, and community partners; support enrollment and giving outcomes.
Public Relations & Reputation Management: Strong interpersonal skills; experience promoting and protecting an organization’s public reputation while responding to feedback with care.
Project Management & Organization: Skilled in managing multiple tasks and deadlines; highly organized, proactive, and able to work independently and in teams.
Strategic & Data-Informed Mindset: Comfortable with analyzing data and performance metrics to inform strategic decision-making and improve engagement strategies.
Volunteer Coordination: Experience recruiting and managing volunteers to support school initiatives.
Partnership Development: Ability to build and maintain partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community groups.
Feedback & Continuous Improvement: Ability to gather feedback and improve engagement strategies based on community insights.

Employment Details

Salary range from $30k to $49k
