Admissions Director
Opening Statement
This position is responsible for actively increasing enrollment across the school prekindergarten -12th grade and sharing the unique qualities and value of the Shining Mountain Waldorf School programs. The Admissions Director promotes and articulates the value of Waldorf Education through conversation, education, leading school tours, attending school fairs, and other related off campus events, holding open house events on campus, and actively creating opportunities to introduce the school and its programs to the greater Boulder community. The Admissions Director guides families through the admission process and enrollment at the school. The Admissions Director works in collaboration with other members of the Advancement Team to seek opportunities to promote the school, its programs, and Waldorf Education.

Shining Mountain Waldorf School (SMWS) is at an exciting point in its 40-year history. We have recently opened a new state-of-the-art high school campus, which is adjacent to the existing lower school campus. As such, our school has been deeply engaged in a revisioning process to launch a unique, contemporary identity that includes several innovative program opportunities.
Shining Mountain Waldorf School, founded in 1983, is an accredited Pre-K-12 nonprofit independent school located in Boulder, Colorado on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. We are recognized for our academic depth, experiential learning, artistic integration, wilderness experiences, and strong athletic program. Our school is about an hour’s drive to Denver and Rocky Mountain National Park. We are close to world-class hiking, skiing, and outdoor recreation. A college town, Boulder is home to the University of Colorado and Naropa University, as well as numerous local organizations that provide a rich variety of arts, lectures, and workshops. Boulder is known for its natural beauty, environmental initiatives, sustainable agriculture, farm-to-table dining, and more than 300 days of sunshine each year.
Essential Job Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Knowledge and continued learning of Waldorf Education education principals
Understanding of Shining Mountain’s vision, mission, and programs, to respond to interested families’ questions about the curriculum, unique approach to child development, and quality of education
Enhance enrollment across the school through attracting interest in Waldorf education and our state of the art High School and its educational programs
Schedule and lead school tours of the Shining Mountain campus – both individual and groups
Communicate, coordinate, and facilitate the admission process with interested families from inquiry through to enrollment
Work collaboratively with the School Director, High School Leadership Team, and faculty sections to support and facilitate the admissions process and goals
Be present on campus to meet and greet families to share school and community events
Oversee the Welcome Committee of the Parent Community Association for new families to feel embraced by the school community
Coordinate a welcoming and educational New Parent Tea at the start of the school year
Create and arrange the Rising First Grade Parent Welcome Afternoon and the Rising 6th Grade Parent Evening in some years
Support the sharing of Essentials of Waldorf Education fall and spring presentations by promoting to families, especially families new to Waldorf education and Shining Mountain
Outreach and attendance at school fairs and other off campus events to promote the school, sharing the mission, programs and pedagogy of Waldorf Education
Plan, promote, and organize open house events on campus
Actively seek opportunities to introduce the school and its programs to the greater Boulder County community through creative outreach opportunities
Collaborate with other members of the Advancement team with ideas to promote the school, its programs and Waldorf Education and its unique educational curriculum
Maintain and enter database information timely to meet monthly visit and outreach goals
Extract analytical information and enrollment trends internally and externally to refine admissions process improve outreach on the benefits of Waldorf education and Shining Mountain
Additional Responsibilities
Attend weekly all school Plenum meetings interacting with faculty and staff members
Special events which may require night and weekends
As per our SMWS philosophy, the person filling this position may occasionally be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in accordance with the duties listed above.
Qualifications
Education and Qualifications / Regulations
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in admissions, sales, marketing, private school or other non profit organization
Microsoft Office, Google Suite required; Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge experience preferred
Experience with managing budgets, finances, data analysis, and profit/loss statements.
Knowledge of and commitment to Waldorf Education and attraction of interested families to SMWS
Professionalism and Work Environment
Proven ability to meet admissions goals and schedule measurable new parent interactions
Friendly, clear, and timely written and oral communications
Independent work – maintaining organizational, time management, and planning skills
Inspire collaborative work with teams and Community volunteers
SMWS office environment allowing daily campus interaction with colleagues, parents, and community members which foster cultivating and building relationships
Actively participate and socialize with SMWS community at school sponsored events
Present an ease with conversation presenting a professional demeanor and attire
Touring the campus with interested families and sharing the principles of Waldorf Education
Optimum hours during school hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (occasional nights and weekend availability)
Employment Details
Salary, Hours, and Benefits
Full time, 40 hours per week, a year-round Administrative position
This position continues to work during school calendar and break schedules
Salary – Range of $50,000 to $60,000
Personal Time Accrual – up to 3 weeks per year
Sick Time Accrual – up to 48 hours per calendar year
Staff Holidays – up to 15 days per school year
