Teaching for Black Lives in Waldorf Schools: Creating An Intercultural Black Pedagogy
Teaching for Black Lives in Waldorf Schools: Creating An Intercultural Black Pedagogy
When: 07/31/2026 - 08/02/2026 Eastern Time
Where: Virutal/Online
Sponsoring Organization: Great Lakes Waldorf Institute
While multicultural education acknowledges the necessity for multiple cultural perspectives, interculturalism understands that these perspectives should not be presented without direct input and agency of the cultures represented; and pedagogy looks not just at curriculum and content, but at the methodology and purpose of the educational experiences we are trying to provide. An Intercultural Black Pedagogy then, moves not for but with Black folx in our intermediate and surrounding community, and applies thoughts of reasoning that connect to that Waldorf philosophy of teaching to the whole child.
This three-day, online weekend workshop is designed for teachers, pedagogical leaders, curriculum coordinators, and all community members interested in exploring an Intercultural Black Pedagogy rooted in Waldorf education, emphasizing teaching with Black folx through shared agency, lived perspectives, and a commitment to educating the whole child. Participants will examine how curriculum, methodology, and purpose can be aligned to create learning experiences that are culturally responsive, relational, and transformative.
