Opening Statement
The Waldorf School of Baltimore seeks a warm, skilled, and collaborative Vocal/General Music Teacher to lead a vibrant, developmentally grounded music program for grades 1–8. Music is a central pillar of Waldorf education, and this role offers the opportunity to awaken students’ enthusiasm for music while guiding them to understand, appreciate, and perform within a rich, holistic curriculum.

Founded in 1971, the Waldorf School of Baltimore is dually accredited by AWSNA and the Association of Maryland Independent Schools (AIMS). We serve children from Pre-K (2.5+) through Grade 8. Our Children’s Garden includes Baltimore City’s only Forest Kindergarten program and reflects our school-wide commitment to nature-rich, hands-on education.
Our beautiful hillside campus in northwest Baltimore City includes woodlands, open fields, and garden spaces and is adjacent to the Cylburn Arboretum. We are housed in a purpose-built facility overlooking the city and are proud to be a MAEOE Certified Sustainable Green School and a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School.
Essential Job Duties
Through singing, movement, rhythm, ear training, and classroom instrument instruction, you will nurture each child’s musical capacities in an engaging and age-appropriate way.
The music teacher is responsible for planning and leading all 1st-8th grade vocal and general music lessons, coordinating curriculum with class teachers, and cultivating a well-organized, inspiring classroom environment. The role also includes oversight and coordination of the instrumental program and its faculty. Strong communication with families is essential, including providing guidance on instrument rentals, sharing student progress, and contributing to a connected and supportive school community. This position also involves active participation in faculty meetings, professional development, and the ongoing life of the school, which includes coordinating performances at seasonal festivals and assemblies.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with strong singing skills and proficiency in teaching and playing classroom instruments, including the recorder and the piano. Preferred qualifications include a degree in music education, experience with the Orff-Schulwerk approach, prior elementary or middle school teaching experience, and a commitment to Waldorf pedagogy (or a willingness to grow into it). The ideal candidate brings creativity, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit, along with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
This position reports to the Academic Director and offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a dedicated and mission-driven faculty.
Employment Details
Salary $42k-$62k depending commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include Health insurance, PTO, tuition remission, and 403 retirement plan.
