Preschool Assistant Teacher
Opening Statement
Orchard Valley Waldorf School in East Montpelier is seeking full and part-time assistant teachers to support our two Preschool Classrooms for the 2026-2027 School Year. Ideally, this position would include Teaching Strategies Gold observations and reporting duties in the morning program and assisting the lead teacher in the afternoon program.
Our Preschool programs provide children ages 3-5 years old an outstanding early childhood experience led by a staff of Waldorf-trained professionals. Children spend their days engaged in creative free play, ample time in nature, work with the land, baking, painting, wholesome organic morning snacks, storytelling, nursery rhymes, and singing!
Along with an abundance of resources in this natural setting, each preschool class has a large play yard, beautiful farmhouse-style classroom and shared yards adjacent to the building.
We are seeking candidates who are warm, nurturing, kind, and patient. Must be willing to sit on the ground, sing with children, and play outside in all weather year-round. Candidates should have a strong work ethic, be excited to come to work, and have a love of young children.

Orchard Valley Waldorf School is a vibrant, rural school set on two beautiful campuses in the heart of Vermont, with close proximity to Montpelier, Vermont’s capital. It’s a small town with big city amenities – a lively arts and music scene, great restaurants, and an active outdoor community.
Orchard Valley Waldorf School Faculty are warm, collaborative and curious about the world around them. We provide education and care for children from infancy through Grade 8 and currently have 120 students in our programs, which include three Infant-3 year old classrooms, two Pre-K classrooms, one Kindergarten, and fixed combined Grades classes: 1 / 2; 3 / 4; 5 / 6 and 7 / 8
Orchard Valley Waldorf School is an AWSNA Associate member and WECAN member school. Our birth through PreK programs are Vermont DCF Child Development Division Center Based Child Care Programs. Orchard Valley Waldorf School is an Approved Independent School and Pre Qualified Preschool program by the Vermont Agency of Education.

Our teachers are expected to be working with the children at the center with an explicit commitment to engaging in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work both in themselves and as a faculty/staff body.
Candidates would ideally be qualified as Teacher Assistant by the CBCCPP licensing regulations or be able to reach qualification status within a year and either have experience in a Waldorf classroom or be interested in engaging in Waldorf training.
- This is a full-time, school year, hourly position
- Benefits include paid federal holidays, PTO, tuition remission, wellness stipend, and two weeks vacation after the first year of employment
- Compensation range is $17.75-$20.75 based on education and experience
