Opening Statement

The Full Day Early Childhood Camp Assistant Teacher supports a Waldorf-inspired summer camp program for children ages 3 to rising first grade. Campers include current Brooklyn Waldorf School students, incoming students for the 2026–27 school year, and children from families exploring Waldorf education. An understanding of — or genuine openness to — Waldorf Education is highly desirable. Assistant Teachers work closely with a Lead Teacher, who guides the weekly rhythm and daily activities, and with the Auxiliary Programs Coordinator, who manages logistics and family communication.

  •         Week 1: June 15–18 (4 days; no camp June 19)
  •         Week 2: June 22–26
  •         Week 3: June 29–July 3
  •         Week 4: July 6–10
  •         Week 5: July 13–17

Essential Job Duties

  •         Support the Lead Teacher in maintaining a nurturing, Waldorf-inspired daily rhythm that ensures the safety and well-being of all children.
  •         Help facilitate developmentally appropriate activities such as handwork, storytelling, movement, nature walks, and weekly culminating projects.
  •         Supervise and actively engage with children during park outings and off-campus activities, as directed by the Lead Teacher.
  •         Provide guidance and support to the Afternoon Assistant Teacher when needed, fostering a positive and collaborative teaching team.
  •         Communicate warmly with families at drop-off and pickup; report any concerns to the Auxiliary Programs Coordinator for follow-up.
  •         Assist with classroom setup from 8:30–9:00 a.m. each morning and with cleanup and Extended Day supervision as needed.
  •         Upload photos documenting daily camp activities for family communication each afternoon.
  •         Submit a weekly report every Thursday to the Auxiliary Programs Coordinator detailing snack or supply needs for the following week.
  •         Commit to a minimum of four consecutive camp weeks (additional weeks strongly preferred).

·         Availability to substitute during non-working weeks is highly desired.

Qualifications

  •         Minimum one year of experience in a Waldorf early childhood classroom.
  •         Excellent communication skills and a warm, professional presence with children, families, and colleagues.
  •         Familiarity with — or a genuine interest in — Waldorf Education and its principles.
  •         Prior experience in a camp or childcare setting.
  •         Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  •         Ability to navigate a multi-level school building efficiently (stairs and/or elevator).
  •         Commitment to supporting the mission and values of the Brooklyn Waldorf School.

Location: 11 Jefferson Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11238 (on-site)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Reports To: Auxiliary Programs Coordinator

Salary Range: $30 per hour
