Waldorf education is featured in the August issue of Parents magazine in the story — How Boys May Benefit From ‘Redshirting’ in Kindergarten. The article claims that “Waldorf schools advocate for redshirting,” but in reality Waldorf educators focus on developmentally appropriate education with academics beginning in first grade.
“Research shows that starting formal schooling closer to age seven supports stronger self-regulation, social skills, and cognitive readiness,” says Beverly Amico, the executive director of advancement at the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America. “This is not about holding children back, but about ensuring that each student is ready to learn without undue stress at a young age. This is one factor in supporting the love of learning.”
