Opening Statement

Acorn Waldorf School in Accord, NY is looking to fill an assistant teacher position to support our early childhood outdoor Waldorf program. The assistant teacher is responsible for working with the lead teacher to deliver our nature-based, outdoor, play-based curriculum.

Founded in 2010, Acorn Waldorf School is located in the beautiful Catskill Mountains in Accord, NY, and is an accredited member of WECAN. We are located on 7 acres of meadow & forest spaces with four yurts, a vegetable garden, sandboxes, rabbits, climbing structures and the winding paths, animals, trees and mud that nature provides. We serve young children ages two through six as well as parent-child classes.

Essential Job Duties

Assist and support the work of the lead teacher in class-related activities with the students.
Assist and support the work of the lead afternoon teacher through an afternoon/nap program that is a companion to and supports the work of the morning lead teacher and has Waldorf pedagogy as a guiding principle.

Prepare the children for parent pick-up at the end of the school day.

Leave classroom in an orderly state, ready for the next school morning.

Monitor and supervise children’s behavior within a variety of school environments (classroom, restroom, yard, etc.), providing for the safety and welfare of the children in accordance with the AWS Safety Policy.

Maintain good relationships with parents and clarify with parents that all conversations about their children as AWS students should be between the parents and the lead class teacher.

Qualifications

Candidates should have previous experience working with young children, experience or training in Waldorf Early Childhood Education as well as a commitment to DEIJ work and self development.
