Come work at Portland Waldorf School! We are welcoming applications for two part-time Grades Afternoon Care providers (one lead and one assistant) in the 2025-26 school year. These positions are an integral part of the school’s programs which offer a secure, healthy, and nurturing environment for children with weekly and seasonal rhythms that include storytelling, creative and active play, and nourishment.

Portland Waldorf School was founded in 1982 and is fully accredited through AWSNA. We serve over 300 students from early childhood through grade twelve on a beautiful seven-acre campus in downtown Milwaukie, just 20 minutes from downtown Portland.

Essential Job Duties
Responsibilities:
- Day-to-day activities of class: actively engage groups of mixed-aged children in playing games, arts & crafts, singing, reading, storytelling, and outdoor play in all weather.
- Support children through social interactions during play.
- Prepare snacks, stock supplies.
- General cleaning and tending of the classroom, including: sweeping and washing dishes.
- Take attendance each day, logging time in and time out into aftercare software program.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Licensed with Oregon Central Background Registry prior to start date.
- One year of childcare experience, education or training classes in childcare required; Waldorf teacher training and experience preferred.
- Loving interest in the care and education of young children.
- Ability to engage with children in positive behavior management, conflict resolution, and communication.
- Good communication skills, reliable, punctual, well-organized, and efficient.
- Interest in learning about and commitment to teaching out of the foundations of Waldorf Early Childhood Education.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty and staff to support the mission of Portland Waldorf School.
Employment Details
This is a part-time, non-exempt position with an hourly pay rate of $21.00 for Lead and $18.00 for Assistant. Work hours are Monday through Friday (Lead 1:15-5:45pm and Assistant 2:45-4:45pm) on all school days; and Monday through Friday (8:30am-3:00pm) on all in-service days. Prefer availability to work occasional evenings and weekends for childcare during parent meetings; to substitute for other teachers during morning hours as needed; and to work/substitute during school break camps, as needed. Benefits offered include paid sick time per Oregon Sick Leave law.
