The Waldorf Independent School of Edmonton is in the news for their edible schoolyard, community garden and upcoming public composting program.
In June, more than 50 fruit trees, along with vegetables and herbs, were planted in raised garden beds on the school grounds to serve the school and the larger community. The school also offers gardening classes for the community at the school.
Now that the garden is well on its way, the school has announced that it will begin a public composting program in the fall thanks in part to a $2,500 grant from Sustainable Food Edmonton.
