Lower School Class Teacher
Opening Statement
Lake Champlain Waldorf School is seeking a Lower Grades Class Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated educator to carry a class on their elementary school journey. The selected candidate will join a vibrant, collaborative and inspired group of teachers in our lower school program.
About
Our well-established K-12 school is both grounded and innovative; we are deeply rooted in the traditional Waldorf curriculum while also reaching into the future through an educational emphasis on social, racial, and environmental justice. We offer a vibrant learning community on two campuses in northwestern Vermont. The Lower School and Early Childhood campus (K-6) is surrounded by Nature Conservancy forest, literally at its doorstep. Our outdoor classrooms complement our beautiful classrooms in the building.
We are a close, collaborative, and dedicated group of class teachers, subject teachers, and administrators, working to develop new models of instruction that serve the students of the 21st century. We are dedicated to supporting and promoting the qualities at the heart of our mission: creativity, compassion, inclusivity and innovative problem-solving.
Essential Job Duties
At LCWS, Class teachers deliver Main Lessons, core academics, arts, our anti-bias curriculum, and tend to the overall social life of the class community. Class teachers are supported by specialists in music, Spanish, handwork, and gym. Collaborative, programmatic support is provided in math and professional development is provided in Language Arts through a partnership with the Stern Center for Language and Learning. A full-time School Counselor and a full-time Educational Support Specialist complement our pedagogical team. Mentorship and professional development are provided to all new teachers and assistant teachers help support lower grades classes.
Class teachers are active members of the Lower School Branch and work together to make the decisions that affect their students. Class teachers remain with their class as they journey through our lower school and as a result develop close relationships with their students and their families.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Waldorf teaching experience
• Having, or willing and able to commit to, Waldorf teacher training
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with children, parents, and colleagues
• A creative, collaborative approach
• Interest in and commitment to belonging to an evolving, modern, progressive Waldorf school
Employment Details
This is a full-time position, and we offer a base salary of $42,000 plus additional increments for years of experience up to $72,000+. Employees also receive a benefit payment of $8,400 annually in lieu of health insurance. Additionally, employees receive tuition remission, short-term disability, access to professional development funds, and access to a faculty care fund. This is a full-time position. A moving stipend or a signing bonus is offered to qualified candidates.
