Ideal candidates will be well-versed in Waldorf pedagogy or open to learning, collaborative in nature, and passionate about working with adolescents.

A strong candidate will be confident in designing lessons that support deep conceptual understanding, provide relevant application, and meet the needs of a diverse group of learners.

Essential Job Duties

  • Teach main lesson science blocks annually (e.g., Organic Chemistry, Physics, Human Physiology, Comparative Anatomy, etc.).
  • Design and facilitate engaging, developmentally appropriate science lessons that emphasize observation, experimentation, and connection to broader human knowledge.
  • Maintain and organize laboratory materials and ensure student safety during all lab activities.
  • Write quarterly narrative reports and final grades for each student.
  • Serve as a student advisor and participate in academic advising.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines, especially in math and middle school science.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, school events, and year-start/year-end high school trips.
  • Engage in ongoing curriculum development and contribute to department goals.
Attend and contribute to department meetings and regular faculty mentoring and evaluation processes.

Additional Duties May Include

  • Coordinating or assisting with outdoor education and field trips.
  • Supporting or leading school festivals, student clubs, or project-based electives.
  • Contributing to a school event or project, such as prom, student exhibitions, or team coaching.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Ecology, Physiology).
  • At least one year of teaching experience, preferably with high school students.
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging, hands-on, and integrated science experiences.
  • Excellent classroom management and strong organizational skills.
  • Comfort with or openness to Waldorf pedagogy and the block scheduling model.
  • Ability to demonstrate foundational math skills in Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry.

Preferred:

  • Graduate degree in a science or education field.
  • Waldorf teacher training or strong familiarity with Waldorf education.
  • Experience managing a high school science lab.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with humanities and arts teachers.
  • Capacity to support or coach a high school club, sport, or extracurricular initiative.
