Opening Statement

Mālamalama Waldorf School is seeking a warm, dedicated Grade 1/2 (combined class) Teacher to join our faculty for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a full-time, in-person teaching position within a collaborative and supportive school community rooted in Waldorf education, reverence for childhood, and meaningful relationship-building.

Essential Job Duties

  • Prepare and teach daily main lessons and subject lessons appropriate to a combined Grade 1/2 class, in alignment with Waldorf curriculum and child development.

  • Establish a warm, steady classroom presence that supports healthy rhythm, order, and a sense of belonging for the students.

  • Create and maintain a classroom environment that is beautiful, nurturing, and supportive of imaginative learning.

  • Assess and support the social and academic needs of each student, guiding their developmental growth with care and awareness.

  • Communicate regularly with parents to foster partnership, understanding, and shared support of the child.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, including participation in faculty meetings, festivals, school events, and pedagogical study.

  • Engage in ongoing professional and inner development to deepen understanding of Waldorf education and the transforming needs of the growing child.

  • Lead the class forward with continuity from year to year, carrying the students through the grades as their class teacher.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher required.

  • Waldorf teacher training completed or in progress.

  • Previous Waldorf teaching experience strongly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of child development and Waldorf pedagogy.

  • Ability to hold a warm, grounded classroom presence and support healthy social dynamics.

  • Strong communication skills and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents.

  • Capacity and commitment to carry the class forward through the grades.

  • Artistic and musical abilities, along with comfort leading song, movement, and artistic activities, are highly valued.

  • Job Type: Full-time

  • Pay: US$34,875-36,125 (Annually)

  • Benefits: Tuition discount for enrolled children and support for professional development

  • School Year: August to June

  • Location: Keaʻau, Hawaiʻi (In-person position)

  • Ability to Relocate: Candidates must be able to reliably commute or plan to relocate prior to the start of the school year
