Opening Statement
Green Meadow Waldorf School in Chestnut Ridge, NY, is looking for a Full-Time Early Childhood Teacher to join our faculty for the 2025/26 school year.
About
Our school campus is located within 140 wooded acres 30 miles from New York City. Our students are immersed in nature throughout all four seasons and most often outdoors all day in autumn and springtime. Each class has its own dedicated indoor space.
Our proximity to New York City and the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley and the rest of New York State enable our students and families to enjoy the best of city life and the pastoral beauty of the Hudson River Valley.
Essential Job Duties
This position requires a deep understanding of Waldorf early childhood pedagogy, enthusiasm for land stewardship, an innovative Waldorf approach grounded in a nature-based early childhood curriculum, and commitment to collaborative working that honors and strengthens all community members, honoring the richness that diversity, equity and inclusion practices bring to our children’s learning experience.
Responsibilities:
- Meet the needs of each child and the whole class through a Waldorf curriculum
- Assess the evolving needs of the children in the class through observation and maintaining good records to support student learning, collaboration with colleagues, and parent communication
- Provide parent education to build and form a healthy class community through excellent communication
- Work collegially with support teachers and model/maintain healthy adult relationships
- Include gardening and animal care routinely in the rhythm of the day, week, and year
- Integrate age-appropriate movement activities, circle time, stories, and puppetry into the rhythm of the week
- Renew traditional Waldorf curriculum and practices through place-based learning and the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion perspectives and consciousness
- Maintain timely and excellent verbal and written communication
- Work effectively within the shared leadership model of the early childhood section, which is collaborative in all respects of our work
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or other related field
- Waldorf EC Training certificate or working towards completion of the Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher Training
- A strong candidate will have three to five years of experience in a Waldorf early childhood program
- Commitment to continued training and self-education in the realm of Waldorf early childhood education
